The Collection

Made of jute, these handwoven low-profile doormats are perfect to use in every doorway: we like having one in each color throughout the house. Theyre named for brilliant Outsider Artists: outsider art, or art brut (raw or rough art), is defined as art made by naive or self-taught artists, who operate outside of conventional art-world strictures. Often exuberant and poetic, it reminds us that other worlds are possible.

The Design

Jute has a desirable variation of hue and texture, which we play up in the weft with small-batch space-dying. Darger has a black warp with a multicolor pastel weft.

The Material

Jute is a natural fiber with a golden sheen, known for its tensile strength and versatility. Low-shed, easy-to-clean, and biodegradable, its handspun weft expresses the jutes natural irregularities and textures. An eco-conscious crop, jute has minimal water needs, and consumes large enough quantities of carbon dioxide that its C02-neutral.

The Maker

Our partner is a third-generation family-run weaving house in Bhadohi, India. They specialize in plush pile rugs, and their immense knowledge helped us improve construction for durability and less shedding. Their values are twofold: creating the highest-quality product and taking care of their team, supporting their weavers in whatever they need.

The Designer

Our in-house, all-star design team collaborates across three different countries. Based in Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Mumbai, they put a lot of thought into each and every collection they design. Starting with the weave itself, they determine material and technique, then create moodboards to capture the look and feel before starting to design. When designs are finalized, they work with the supplier on an extensive sampling process, perfecting each style and color before it goes to production.

Jute is a natural fiber, not a performance one, and will fade if left in direct sunlight. We think this looks good, but not everyone feels the same way, so please consider this before buying. It also should not be exposed to rain. These doormats are best for covered porches, and we also like them inside for wiping off your feet. If you live in a particularly damp climate, these are not the doormats for you. Clean regularly by giving it a good shake. Rotate to ensure even wear over time. Keep away from excessive moisture, which will cause mold.
